Final Project

Artist Statement
Michael Lopez
For my final project I focused on a series of black and white studio portraits and I focused on the simple beauty of features of the body. The photos focus more on other features besides the face and display a wide range of the organic lines and features of the  I chose to do my project on this subject to portray the simple beauty of other features of the body.
This project takes me out of my comfort zone from what I usually shoot. I am still adjusting to the fact that I have total control over all elements of the photograph. I used both white and black backdrops as well as a constant light source. When the light was placed in different positions, the shadows would shift across the subject matter. Whether the light was in the side or in front of the subject, above or in line with the subject, the picture would drastically change. These changing shadows add to the lines and contrast of the images.
My intent for this project was to focus more on other features of the model than the face. Some photos do display the face, but include other features that I was trying to display to the viewers. I am conveying the natural organic lines of different part of the body, with the light creating shadows and contrast. These shadows can make some of the pictures slightly abstract with the organic curves and lines being the focal point.
